Dear parents of LEGO® lovers,

Tired of the same old after-school clubs?

Try The Great Adventure Lab, a new program that offers many science enrichment classes, including  LEGO® Robotics, where kids learn to build and program machines and robots using Windows-based computers that run WeDo (LEGO® Education’s award-winning construction kit and software designed for kids ages 7 to 10). Our other science enrichment classes include LEGO Mindstorms,  Video Game Programming, Electronics, Crime Science, Young engineers, Storybook Science and .. starting this summer … Fizz, Bang, Pop! for kids who love to play outdoors with their science!

The Great Adventure LabIn our core robotics class, LEGO® Robotics our students learn the engineering concepts behind  simple machines (how axles, pulleys and gears work, etc.) as well as elementary concepts of computer programming -all in a super fun environment involving LEGO®s!  If you or your student are new to robotics, this FAQ explains more about our classes for beginners.

We believe in small class sizes (maximum: 12 students) and lots of top-of-the-line equipment (we furnish one netbook for every two kids in our robotics classes; and one netbook for each student in our programming classes). This way, every kid enjoys a hands-on experience and individual access to our instructors during class. (Check out our Gallery for photos and links to videos from our classes!)

We also believe in letting kids learn and explore at their own paces. Our students work in pairs and our instructors tailor teaching for each pair. This allows us to spend more time explaining fundamental concepts to some students, while introducing advanced engineering and programming challenges to others. In other words, no one gets overwhelmed, everyone gets challenged, and no one ever, ever gets bored!

We are not affiliated with LEGO® or LEGO® Education.

If your child loves our core robotics class, we have a great follow-on course, Robo Challenge. That’s where we take the training wheels off. Then comes Mindstorms.

Please let us know if you’d like to see us offer classes at your regular summer camp, or if you’d like to see our clubs at your school or home school! We also offer  birthday parties!

Most of our programs are for students grades 2 through 7, but we are now expanding our programs for grades K-1, starting with  Storybook Science. The program was so popular this fall that we are also offering a follow-on class, Storybook Science 2, this spring.

When your PTA forms an TGAL class (signs up students, reserves a room, collects money and pays our invoice with one check from the PTA), we donate a percentage of that tuition back to your PTA! Here are our donations so far.

For  a full description of all of our classes, prices and age ranges, look here.

If you’d like to bring The Great Adventure Lab to your elementary school, invite us! We’re currently forming clubs in public, private and home schools in Montgomery County, Md.. Now moving into Gaithersburg and beyond!
