Elementary Instructor

The Great Adventure Lab has several part-time openings for responsible, enthusiastic instructors who can teach our hands-on, after school science programs at least three afternoons a week at schools near you!

Job description:

Enthusiastically teach science, technology and/or engineering classes to grades K-8, using our curriculum, training and equipment. Maximum student-adult ratio 7:1. Duties include encouraging students, sitting down on the floor with them to help them when appropriate, attending paid trainings, picking up, transferring and recharging equipment when necessary (equipment weighs 50-70 pounds and is transported in rolling carts); emailing notes home to parents after class; clear and timely communication with our back office.

Candidates must have  at least one year’s experience working with children ages 7 and older, ideally in a classroom setting; a demonstrated interest in computers, robotics, math or science; a working smart phone; and a reliable car with valid insurance and a current local driver’s license. Candidates must also be able to pass a background check.

You don’t need to be a computer whiz to apply, but we prefer science or engineering majors/ professionals who also have experience working with kids (i.e. in schools, camps, as parents, as coaches, etc.).

We are also looking for instructor aides who can work 2-3 afternoons a week during the school year.  Aides have all our desired qualities but don’t teach class and are not responsible for transporting equipment.

Our instructor job is an ideal position for anyone whose established P/T work schedule only allows for only a few hours of work per week, preferably on subsequent days (ie MTW instead of MWF). This is not a good fit for someone who is looking to earn cash while searching for a F/T job.

The Great Adventure Lab offers a fun working environment, flexible scheduling, superior pay (more than similar organizations!!), regular raises when you meet our expectations; paid training and profit sharing. If you’re smart you’ll read our instructor bios to get a better idea of the folks we like to hire.

We provide all computers and robotics kits for use during class meetings only.
